Science Olympiad Team

The Vanderlyn Vikings Science Olympiad team was one of 66 teams from all over Georgia invited to compete in the State Championship Elementary Science Olympiad Tournament held on Saturday, May 14th at Kennesaw State University. All teams were all invited to compete because of their top finishes in Regional Science Olympiad tournaments. The Vanderlyn team earned a slot as the first place team in the DeKalb County Science Olympiad, held back in March.

With a fabulous team effort, including top ten finishes in half of the 18 different events, Vanderlyn placed second in the state, missing out on first place by a just a few points. This outstanding performance follows up on last year’s first place state victory, and cements the school’s reputation as top performer.

The Vanderlyn State Science Olympiad team is led by head coach Karen Baker, assistant coach Lavanya Subramanian, teacher sponsor Mr. Williams, and event coaches Mr. Sechelski, Coach Dwyer, and Ms. Bogis.
