The DeKalb County School District will dismiss students at 12:00pm on Friday, December 8, 2017. In addition, there will be no ASEDP today.

In order to ensure a safe and orderly dismissal, Vanderlyn has put specific procedures into action.

· There will be no After School Care (ASEDP) today. If your child attends ASEDP, please email your child’s homeroom teacher (ASAP) letting him/her know how your child will be dismissed today.

· Buses will be leaving the school around 12:00 p.m.

· Carpool and walkers will begin at 12:15 p. m.

Please be assured that we have a comprehensive Safe School Plan that we will execute with ease. It is important that you check the communication modes (Remind101 texts, Vanderlyn's website, Viking Views, and Facebook) rather than inundate the front office with phone calls and requests for early checkout. Thank you in advance for trusting us with your children!

We would like to invite you to our STEM/ PBL Showcase on November 29, 2017 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. This evening showcase will be a time to browse your child’s classroom and view the amazing work our students have done this semester through PBL units. The presentations will not last the entire time frame. It will be set-up in an open-house style, as if walking through a museum. While it is not required that students come to the showcase, it would be great for them to participate and share their work with others in the learning community. We encourage parent visitors to first go to your child’s classroom, and then walk around and browse what other grade levels have done. Students may remain in their classrooms while you browse, as some will be sharing their presentations with other visitors. All students do not need to stay the entire time and may leave with you once you have had the chance to browse the museum. [...click for more]

Session Title: Struggling Readers: How to Help and Encourage Literacy at Home

Target Audience: Parents of students who receive EIP support or any parents interested in increasing reading achievement.
Parents often want to know how to help encourage literacy at home. This engaging workshop will provide parents with an understanding of what our EIP (Early Intervention Program) looks like and its direct effect on the academic performance of their students. Based on research-validated instructional strategies, parents will also receive a solid foundation of knowledge and tools needed to support reading instruction at home. The central goal of this workshop is for parents to understand that by engaging in the reading process with your child and bringing a "workshop-like" environment into your home, you will extend learning and literacy development, ultimately leading to the development of lifelong readers.
